Introduction to Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

Overview

The TESOL course is designed for native and non-native speakers wishing to gain a basic qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. It also serves as an excellent preliminary course for those interested in the Cambridge CELTA.

The course has a duration of two weeks. The first week and the mornings of the second week consist of tutor led input. The afternoon sessions of the second week consist of trainee teaching practice and feedback.

The TESOL course is very practical in nature. Modules cover a wide variety of teaching techniques and strategies with a strong emphasis on teaching in Thailand using the communicative approach to language teaching.

All successful candidates receive a certificate that is recognized by the Thai Ministry of Education.

  • Classroom management
  • Lesson planning
  • Concept checking
  • Drilling
  • Eliciting
  • Presenting new language
  • Form, function and concept
  • Phonology
  • Language Analysis
  • Error correction

    Grading

    Trainees attending the TESOL Course will be awarded one of the following grades

  • Grade A
    Completed the course with distinction. These trainees have met the specified criteria and have demonstrated in their teaching practice a level of ability and achievement significantly higher than that required to meet pass-level criteria. They will go on to become effective teachers.
  • Grade B
    Completed the course successfully. These trainees have demonstrated a good grasp of the techniques and strategies introduced on the course. They should develop into capable teachers if given guidance and the opportunity for further training
  • Grade C
    Completed the course. These trainees' performance meets the specified criteria. They will continue to need some guidance to help them to develop and broaden their range of skills as teachers.
  • Grade D (Fail)
    These trainees have failed to meet the criteria of the course in one or more of the following areas: planning for effective teaching, classroom teaching skills and awareness of teaching and learning processes. Trainees who did not meet the minimum attendance requirements.

    Requirements

    Candidates:-

  • a) should be at least 20 years of age
  • b) should have a good command of both spoken and written English
  • c) must attend 100% of the course
