Teaching English in Bangkok Schools
ECC works in conjunction with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration
and places English language teachers at primary
schools within the BMA's area. The primary schools ECC deals with typically cater
for underprivileged students between the ages of 6-12. Many of the schools are
actually temple schools which the students attend free of charge.

What are the schools like?
If you envisage teaching at a school you might come across in the west then this is
not the job for you! The schools are usually relatively old, sometimes poorly-equipped,
and can have classes of up to 60 students. The work environment can be noisy and the
schools usually don't have air-conditioning.

|
What is the work like?
Most foreign teachers require a lot of readjustment when they start teaching at a
"Schools Project" school - they are quite unlike anything you might encounter
in the west. However, you will ultimately provide your students with more opportunities
than would usually be available to them in later life. As such you have a very positive
impact on these students' lives and you make a genuine contribution to the development
of Thailand. This is rewarding, challenging and meaningful work available to those
with the courage to venture out here.

Requirements
The primary schools we deal with require people who will be able to work from May until
March the following year. We are therefore looking for people who are able to make a
reasonably long-term commitment to Thailand. In addition, to be offered employment
teachers must make themselves available for a two-day orientation course prior to taking
employment. This orientation is unpaid and held in Bangkok.
|
Terms and Conditions
These positions are offered under local employment standards. Flights and accommodation
are not part of the package offered - teachers make their own travel arrangements.
ECC is able to assist in finding accommodation but we do not make a financial
contribution towards it. Teachers will work between 10 and 20 hours a week.

Pay
The hourly rate for work at a "Schools Project" school
is 280 baht, plus a 20 baht per hour bonus which is paid on completion
of each semester. Although teachers are paid monthly they do not
receive a salary - they are paid for the hours they have worked
(although this should be the same every month). The income you can
expect to receive by working at a Schools Project school is very
generous by Thai standards - one that will provide a reasonably
comfortable standard of living. ECC provides you with as much assistance
finding accommodation as we can, but ultimately it is your responsibility
to find somewhere to live. For more details on working in the schools
project please contact Goy at noppawan@ecc.ac.th.
